Youth Leadership Training Program (YLTP) is a 3-week program offered in the summer where college students and young professionals learn to teach a stress-reduction and trauma relief course to those in need. While training as teachers, the participants learn to overcome their own obstacles, form strong bonds, and have an experience they will always remember. After their training period they go on to do service with other nonprofit organizations, doing things such as feeding the homeless or participating in environmental restoration projects. From May 30th to June 5th, 2010, forty-eight young men from troops around the Greater Alabama Council convened at Camp Westmoreland for National Youth Leadership Training. This program is designed to train the next generation of Senior Patrol Leaders, and more generally, to train the next generation of Leaders, with content sessions on Vision, Goals, Planning, Team Development, Teaching, Resolving Conflicts, Ethical Decision Making, and more. This film highlights the experience of those young men in our 2010 session. This year's camp theme was the Westmoreland Olympics, which also included several game shows the participants could take part in which were "moved from their normal time slots" to make room for Olympic games such as Spider Web, Circle Sit, and other team-building activities. www.wcptv.biz Title of Video: Rotary Youth Leadership Award: The Adventure at Abernethy Ardeonaig Featuring The Hillclimb In August, 2007 as part of my Scottish Duke of Edinburgh Award Residential section, I traveled to the RYLA camp at Abernethy Ardeonaig, Perthshire, similar to summer camps for one of Rotary's leadership programs. RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Award which is a course designed as a program for youth to turn you into a better leader and build your team building skills, organized by The Rotary International clubs. It was one of the best experiences ever and I will never forget it. I was sponsored by my club Rotary district Portobello UK. When we arrived, the girl's camp was leaving where there was a funny moment where one of the camp boys was singled out as being cute and the girls swamped him like a pop star! The Rotaract accommodation included rooms with about four bunk beds which was fairly good although one night we had a loud crowd bust into our room and started hitting everyone with pillows. Usually, I'd find that funny but it was very late that evening. I made a good friend while there called Khuram, also sponsored by one of the International Rotary Clubs where I could have a decent conversation with and chat about each day's activities while we anticipated what was coming up next. Youth participate in a series of experiential exercises that visually represent the different forms of oppression, such as racism and sexism, which are present in today's society. Participants share their perspectives on these topics, learning and growing from each individual in the room. This learning increases their understanding of social justice issues as well as their own responsibility to create a bully-free community based on inclusion, trust, and mutual respect. www.iahv.org I participated in a month long "spiritual boot camp" Called the Youth Training Program (YLTP) one in New orleans and one in south africa and canada. Art of living comes out of India and is now grounded in over 140 countries, it is said to be the fasteds growning spiritual movement of the new millenium and IS now the largest volunteer based non profit organization in the world... We Meditate: And then We drink water and sleep and we meditate some more and we sing and dance and give, we do 'seva' (service) In the group and we do group projects like help build houses for the lucky people who had all in order and have been elegable for a new house built by volunteers like us and other people who have flocked to new orleans looking to offer themselves... art of living takes it a step furthur and trained us to teach trauma relief coarse called: Breath, Water, Sound.
